Chisos Mountains

One of the wonderful memories I have of my Dad’s a vacation Kathy and I took with Mother and Dad to Big Bend National Park early 1990’s. Dad was having health problems and he knew it. One day while we were all sitting around the kitchen table there at their house let’s all go to Big Bend!We all paused for a second…then we all said…Well…ok…another pause…let’s go!! Mother then spent time gathering travel brochures and making phone calls and with a bit of planning were soon on our way! Spentone memorable night in Marathon, Texas at the famous Gage Hotel before driving into the park the next day. Our home for a week would be the Chisos Mountains Lodge. We really tried hard to do as many hiking trails and back roads as possible but Dad’s health slowed us down a bit. He was a real trooper but we did have to slow it down for a couple of days so he could recoup. It was a great trip though, lots of photos, lots of. great memories.

I think back on this trip often. I find myself going back through the photos and reliving those wonderful moments. Little did I know at the time just how much of an impact this trip would have on my work. Years later and even still today I find myself staring the photos trying to figure out how to deal with those memories.

The Chisos Mountain pieces came about years later as a direct result of that wonderful trip To Big Bend and eventually led me to the construction of the islands. Thanks Mom and Dad for the memories! Miss you!
